Favicons and Windows icons
An ICO file holds the same icon at several sizes, so it looks sharp in a browser tab (16 px), on a desktop (48 px) or in a large view (256 px). Choose Favicon for websites, or App icon for Windows programs and shortcuts.
Square images work best. Other shapes are centred with a transparent border.
Tips
Start from a PNG or SVG with a transparent background and simple shapes: tiny sizes cannot show fine detail. For a website, name the file favicon.ico and place it in the root of your site. The conversion happens on your device; nothing is uploaded.
Questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. The tool runs inside your browser, so your images are opened and processed on your own device. They are never sent to us or to anyone else.
Which sizes are inside?
Favicon: 16, 32 and 48 px. App icon: 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 px. Or one 256 px image.
Is transparency kept?
Yes. Each size inside the ICO keeps transparent areas.
Does it work with SVG?
Yes. SVG is drawn sharply at each size.
Is it free?
Yes. Free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limits.
