What is WebP?
WebP is an image format made by Google. Many websites use it because the files are small and load fast. When you save an image from a website, you often get a .webp file.
Some apps, older programs and upload forms still cannot open WebP. Converting to JPG gives you a file that opens almost everywhere.
How to convert WebP to JPG
Drop your WebP images in, choose a quality and a background colour for any transparent areas, and press Convert to JPG. Download each image, or all of them as a ZIP file.
Your browser does all the work, so your images are never uploaded.
Saving images from websites
When you right-click an image on a website and save it, many browsers save it as WebP. That can be a surprise if you want to use the picture in a document, a presentation or an older photo app.
Convert the WebP file to JPG and it will open in Word, PowerPoint, older versions of Photoshop, and most phones and printers. Please respect copyright: only use images you have the right to use.
JPG files from WebP are usually a little larger, because JPG compression is older and less efficient. A quality of 85–90% keeps the image looking like the original.
Questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. The tool runs inside your browser, so your files are opened and converted on your own device. They are never sent to us or to anyone else.
Why do websites use WebP?
WebP files are usually smaller than JPG or PNG at a similar quality, so pages load faster.
What about animated WebP files?
A JPG is a single still image, so only one frame of an animation can be kept.
What happens to transparent areas?
They are filled with the background colour you choose, because JPG cannot store transparency.
Is it free?
Yes. Free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
