How it works
Open your PDFs
Choose documents with selectable text; scanned pages need OCR before their words can be extracted.
Extract the page text
Read the text stored in each page; page breaks keep sections from running together.
Download the text files
Save a plain-text copy of each document to search, quote or edit in your text editor.
Get the words out of a PDF
Copying text from a PDF by hand is slow and often breaks lines in odd places. This tool reads the text of every page and saves it as a plain .txt file you can open in any editor, search, or paste into a document.
Page marks like "--- Page 3 ---" help you find where each page starts.
Scanned PDFs
Some PDFs are only pictures of text, for example scans. They have no text to take out; you would need OCR (text recognition), which is not available yet. The tool tells you when a PDF has no text. Reading happens in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. The tool runs inside your browser, so your documents are opened and processed on your own device. They are never sent to us or to anyone else.
Why is my text file empty?
The PDF is probably a scan: a picture of text. Text can only be taken from PDFs with real text.
Is formatting kept?
No. A .txt file holds plain text only: no fonts, colours or images. Line breaks follow the lines of the PDF.
Is it free?
Yes. Free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limits.
