Real redaction
Drawing a black box in a normal PDF editor only covers text; it can still be copied. Here, every page with a match is turned into a picture with the black boxes painted in, so the hidden text is gone from the file.
Pages without matches stay as they are.
Check the result
Text is found by its words in the PDF. Scanned pages have no text to search, and words split across two lines may be missed. Always check the preview.
Private
Your file is processed inside your browser with PDF.js (Apache-2.0) and pdf-lib. It is never uploaded, and nothing is saved after you close the page.
Questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. The tool runs inside your browser, so your files are opened and changed on your own device. They are never sent to us or to anyone else.
Can the black boxes be removed?
No. On redacted pages the text is replaced by a picture, so there is nothing under the boxes.
Does it work on scans?
Not yet: scanned pages have no text to find.
Is it free?
Yes. Free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limits.
