Lighten without washing out
Lightness lifts colors toward white along a natural scale instead of just adding white to everything. Skin tones and skies stay believable while shadows open up and show detail.
Use positive values for gloomy interiors and heavy scans, and negative values to deepen a bright picture into evening mood. Hues shift far less than with plain brightness.
How it differs from brightness
Brightness adds the same fixed amount to every pixel, which can bleach colors. Lightness respects how eyes see color, so saturated reds and blues survive the lift.
Mid-range photos respond best, since nearly white images have nowhere left to go. Combine with a touch of saturation afterwards to keep lifted colors lively.
Kept on your machine
Your pictures are lightened by scripts running locally, not by a remote service. The bytes travel from your disk to your screen and back, never touching a network cable.

Are my images uploaded when I use this?

How is this different from brightness?
Brightness adds the same fixed amount to every pixel, while lightness moves colors along a natural scale toward white or black, keeping hues believable.
Will pure white areas change?
No. Pure white cannot get any lighter, so it stays put while the rest of the image lifts around it. Use a negative amount to darken instead.
