    How it works

    1. Type or paste your text

Write a name, call sign or any message in the box, or open a text file. Nothing is sent anywhere.

    2. Pick the output style

Use plain code words such as Hotel Oscar, or show each letter with its word, such as H (Hotel) O (Oscar).

    3. Copy or download

Copy the spelling to read over the phone, or download it as a TXT file.

    The international spelling alphabet

The NATO phonetic alphabet gives every letter and digit a clear code word, from Alfa to Zulu and Zero to Niner, so spellings survive bad phone lines and noisy radio. Pilots, call centres and emergency services rely on it because words like Mike and November are far harder to mix up than plain letters. Digits use special forms such as Fife-style Three and Niner so they stay distinct.

Type normally and each letter becomes its code word while spaces, line breaks and punctuation are kept where they were. That means flight numbers, booking references, postcodes and Wi-Fi passwords all translate cleanly, and you can read the result straight off the screen during a call.

    Two styles for reading aloud

Words only gives the classic readout: “Hi 5” becomes “Hotel India Five”, ready to speak as-is. It is the fastest choice for call signs, names and reference codes where the listener only needs the code words in order.

Words with letters pairs each character with its word, so “Hi 5” becomes “H (Hotel) i (India) 5 (Five)”. Pick this style for emails, training material and written instructions, where the reader wants to see which letter each code word stands for without guessing.

    Private by design

Spelling tools often handle exactly the details you would least like to share: your name, account references, addresses and passwords. This translator converts every character inside your own browser, so sensitive call signs and personal details are never uploaded, logged or stored on a server.

There is no account, no queue and no expiry: open the NATO phonetic translator when a call needs clear spelling, convert your text, copy the result and close the tab. Your browser cache only keeps the app itself for offline use, never the text you typed.

    Questions

Is my text uploaded or sent anywhere?

No. Translation happens inside your browser. Your names and codes never leave your device.

    How are numbers spelled?

Digits become Zero, One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight and Niner, the standard aviation forms.

What happens to punctuation and spaces?

They are kept in place, so the structure of call signs and addresses survives the translation.

    Is it free?

Yes. Translate as much text as you like, free, with no sign-up and no daily limits.
