    How it works

    1. Add studio shots

Drop in photos taken against a green or blue screen cloth.

    2. Match screen and tolerance

Tell us green or blue, then raise tolerance until wrinkles and shadows vanish.

    3. Download keyed PNGs

Check hair edges in the preview, then save transparent cutouts for editing.

Key studio backdrops like a local edit bay

YouTubers, teachers, sellers and remote workers shoot against cheap green or blue cloth because those hues rarely appear on skin and most clothing, making them easy to isolate mathematically. This tool keys pure video green or broadcast blue with a tolerance sphere around it, turning backdrop pixels transparent while keeping faces, uniforms and props solid. It handles the wrinkled fabric, soft shadows and uneven living-room lighting that phone shoots always include, so you do not need perfect studio lights to get a usable cutout for thumbnails and listings.

Choose the screen shade first, because green spills differently from blue and each needs its own target vector in RGB space for accurate separation. Tolerance near one hundred clears typical cloth variation while sparing subjects, and feathering is baked in so hair strands fade rather than snap. If your subject wears the screen colour, such as a green shirt before a green wall, expect holes there too — change costume or pick a tighter tolerance and accept minor manual touch-up later in your editor.

    Avoid the classic green fringe

Green spill bounces onto shoulders, chins and shiny surfaces, tinting edges that a hard key leaves glowing unnaturally against new backgrounds. Soft feathering converts borderline pixels to semi-transparent instead of fully on or off, which reads as natural light falloff when composited over offices, streets or product scenes. Shoot a step farther from the cloth, light the backdrop separately when you can, and keep tolerance as low as will still clear the cloth, because over-keying thins hair and turns translucent fabrics patchy and grey.

Exports are PNG with true alpha, ready to drop into editors, slide decks and shop listings without extra conversion steps. JPG cannot hold transparency, so never save keyed results as JPG unless you flatten them over a chosen colour first. Keep originals archived, work from copies, and preview the cutout over both dark and light replacements before publishing, since leftover spill hides against green-friendly scenes but glows badly against magenta, orange and skin-toned backdrops.

    Studio keying with nobody watching

Classroom recordings, auditions and product demos deserve discretion, so all keying runs sealed inside your own browser with zero network calls. Unlike cloud studios that upload every take for processing and may retain faces indefinitely, this page decodes your frames, measures colour distance and encodes transparent PNGs without a single packet leaving your machine, which keeps minors, customers and unreleased products safe from leaks, scraping and biometric profiling by strangers.

There is no account, no queue and no expiry: open Green screen removal between takes, process up to ten stills, download the cutouts and close the tab. Only the app shell is cached for offline use, never your footage. Re-key the same original at a different tolerance whenever lighting changes, because your sources stay pristine and each export is an independent copy you can discard without regret.

    Questions

    Is anything uploaded while keying?

No. Keying happens fully in your browser. No frame is sent to any server.

    Is it free?

Yes. Free to use with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limits.

Green or blue — which is better to shoot?

Green is brighter and needs less light, great for phones. Blue suits blond hair and green clothing because it spills less onto those tones.

Why do I see a green rim on hair?

That is spill from the cloth bouncing onto the subject. Lower tolerance slightly and keep feathering on; severe spill must be fixed with better lighting distance.
