Which dashes are replaced
Three Unicode dashes are handled: the em dash (— U+2014), the en dash (– U+2013) and the horizontal bar (― U+2015). These often appear in AI-generated text and in documents converted from Word or PDF, where they can look inconsistent next to plain hyphens.
Choose Space to turn a dash into a normal word gap, Hyphen to use the keyboard hyphen-minus (-) for code, filenames and plain-text style, or Nothing to join the words directly. The plain hyphen-minus you type is never touched.
Cleaning AI-style writing
Em dashes are a visible fingerprint of many AI drafts, appearing in nearly every sentence. Replacing them with commas, periods or plain hyphens makes the text read as more natural and matches house styles that forbid long dashes.
The summary counts every dash replaced so you can verify the change. Paste the result back into your editor and adjust spacing where a dash stood alone between clauses.
