Your text never leaves this deviceHow it works
Open a picture
Open a JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF or HEIC file up to 100 MB. Its Base64 appears at once.
Copy the code
Copy the Base64 text, or download it as a small text file to keep next to your project.
Paste it anywhere
Drop the code into HTML, CSS, JSON or anywhere else a file cannot go.
What Base64 pictures are for
Base64 turns the bytes of a picture into plain letters, numbers and a few symbols, so the whole image can live inside text: in an HTML file, a CSS stylesheet, a JSON document or a data URL. The code runs about one third larger than the picture, so small icons and logos work best.
Because the picture becomes text, you can paste it where files cannot go: directly into code, into configuration files, or into messages that strip attachments. Anyone who copies the text gets the exact same pixels back.
How to use the result
Open a picture and its Base64 appears at once, ready to copy. Use the Download button to save the code as a small text file that sits neatly beside your project files.
To show the picture on a web page, place the code after data:image/png;base64, inside an img tag, using jpg instead of png for JPEG photos. For CSS backgrounds the same data URL works inside url(...).
Private by design
Many converters send your pictures to a distant server before encoding them. This one reads the file and encodes it inside your own browser, so your photos and screenshots are never uploaded, never stored and never seen by anyone else.
There is no account, no queue and no expiry: open Image to Base64 whenever you need it, convert your picture, copy the code and close the tab. Your browser keeps only the app itself for offline use, never your images.
Questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. The picture is read and encoded inside your browser. Your image never leaves your device.
Why is the Base64 longer than my file?
Base64 stores every 3 bytes as 4 characters, so the text is about one third larger than the picture. That is normal and expected.
Which pictures can I open?
JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF and HEIC pictures up to 100 MB. The exact file bytes are encoded, so animated GIFs keep every frame when decoded.
Is it free?
Yes. Free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limits.
