This chroma tool lets you sample whatever backdrop you actually own — mint walls, teal curtains, beige blinds — rather than forcing studio green, then keys that exact hue into transparency. It is tuned for webcam realities like auto-exposure pumping, compression mush and mixed daylight plus lamp colour that make call stills much messier than studio photographs.
Sampling beats presets because your curtain is rarely pure primary green or blue, and a custom pick centres the tolerance sphere exactly where your fabric lives in RGB space. Raise tolerance until folds and corner shadows clear, watching glasses frames and earbuds so similar curtain tones inside the subject do not vanish. Feathering converts edge pixels to partial alpha, which preserves flyaway hair, headset fuzz and knit textures that hard keys turn crunchy and artificial on compressed video-call exports.
From living room to clean overlay
Webcam sensors smear colour under low light, so shoot facing a window when you can, lock exposure if your app allows it, and stand a metre from the curtain to cut colour bounce on shoulders. Keep tolerance minimal yet sufficient, because over-keying eats shirt patterns that share curtain undertones and hollows out semi-transparent details like whiteboards seen through glasses. Test the PNG over the actual meeting background you will use, since edges that vanish over white may still glow faintly over dark gaming scenes and virtual offices.
Results save as PNG with genuine alpha, ready to paste into OBS, meeting avatars, thumbnails and channel art without extra conversion. Do not use JPG for keyed outputs, because it discards transparency and fills holes with white. Archive the original stills untouched, iterate from them with different picks as daylight shifts through the day, and re-export freely until faces stay solid while every trace of curtain disappears from corners, collars and hairlines.
Faces processed where they belong
Call portraits show real faces in private rooms, so they are analysed solely within your current tab and never transmitted elsewhere.
