Click the exact shade you want to erase.
Higher values remove nearby shades too. Start low and raise it slowly.
Fades edge pixels so the cutout blends smoothly.
How it works
Add your images
Drop in JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC photos with a flat backdrop you want to erase.
Pick the colour and tolerance
Click the shade, raise tolerance until the backdrop disappears, keep feather on for smooth edges.
Download transparent PNGs
Preview the checkerboard holes, then save each image as a PNG with real transparency.
Erase one flat colour without uploading anything
Solid backdrops, painted walls, product-table paper and old slide scans often share a single dominant colour that gets in the way of a clean composition. This tool measures the distance of every pixel from the colour you picked and turns matching pixels fully transparent, leaving everything else untouched. It works best when the backdrop is even and well lit, such as a bright green sheet, a white studio sweep or a blue sky behind a sign, because the gap between backdrop and subject stays wide and easy to separate cleanly.
Tolerance controls how strict that match is on a scale from zero to four hundred and forty-two, which is the maximum distance between black and white in RGB space. A value near thirty removes only almost-identical pixels, while ninety clears gentle shading and JPEG smudges, and values above two hundred start eating into similar tones in your subject. Feathering softens the boundary by fading partly-matching edge pixels instead of cutting them harshly, which avoids white halos around hair, leaves and printed letters when you place the result over a new background.
Get clean edges on real photos
Real photos are never one perfect RGB value because sensors add noise, lenses add fringing and JPEG adds blocky artefacts around sharp borders. Start with a low tolerance, preview at full zoom, then raise it in small steps until the last speckles of backdrop vanish but coloured rims on your subject remain intact. If the subject itself contains the key colour, such as green leaves before a green wall, lower the tolerance and accept a little manual cleanup later rather than punching holes through the part you want to keep for your final design work.
The result is always saved as PNG because only PNG and WebP can store an alpha channel, while JPG fills transparent areas with white and has no way to keep holes. Keep your originals untouched, since this creates new copies with transparency baked into the pixels themselves. For print, web shops or slide decks, place the transparent PNG over any colour or photo and the feathered rim will blend naturally without the grey fringe that cheap one-click removers often leave behind on detailed boundaries and fine textures.
Cutouts stay on your machine
Your pixels never travel across the internet; every distance calculation happens in isolated browser memory on your own laptop or phone. Many colour-key websites quietly keep copies for training or advertising, but here the image bytes are decoded, filtered and re-encoded locally, so portfolios, product prototypes and family photos remain entirely under your control from start to finish without accounts, queues or hidden retention policies that you cannot audit or delete afterwards.
There is no sign-up, no queue and no expiry: open Transparent color whenever you need it, process up to ten images, download the results and close the tab. Your browser cache only keeps the app shell for offline use, never your pictures. If you need a different backdrop colour later, simply reopen the original and run the tool again with a new pick, since each export is a fresh copy and your source files are never altered in any way.
Questions
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs inside your browser using local pixel math. Your files never leave your device.
Is it free?
Yes. Free to use with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limits.
What tolerance should I use?
Start near 30 for clean digital graphics and near 90 for photos. Raise it until the backdrop is gone, but stop before the subject gets eaten.
Why does my result show white instead of transparency?
Some viewers show transparency as white. Open the PNG in an editor or place it over another image — the erased colour is truly transparent. JPG cannot show transparency.
