Pixels decide what you can do
An image that looks fine on screen may be far too small for print, while an oversized photo slows every page it appears on. Width and height in pixels are the facts that decide whether a picture can be printed large, cropped tightly, or used as a wallpaper without going soft.
This tool measures the true decoded dimensions of each file, including TIFF pages and phone photos with orientation data. Aspect ratio and megapixels are calculated for you, so comparing candidates takes seconds instead of guesswork.
No uploads, just answers
Measurement happens entirely in your browser on your own device: each image is decoded locally and only the numbers are shown to you. Because files never cross the network, you can measure private photos, client assets and pre-release designs freely.
Open the checker, drop in up to ten images, copy the figures you need and leave — no account, no queue, no trace. Your browser keeps only the app itself for offline use, never the pictures you measured.
When to measure and what to do next
Measure before ordering prints, submitting to stock sites with minimum sizes, building slides, or resizing a batch to match. Orientation and aspect ratio also reveal at a glance which shots are portrait, landscape or square without opening each one.
If pixels fall short, reshooting beats upscaling; if they overflow, Resize image trims them cleanly. For weight in bytes alongside these figures, add Image file size to your workflow.
Questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. Dimensions are measured inside your browser on your own device. Your images are never sent to us or to anyone else.
Is it free?
Yes. Free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limits.
Why do dimensions differ from what my camera claims?
Some cameras store orientation separately and some apps crop or rotate on export. We report the decoded pixels your browser actually sees, which is what editors and printers will use.
How many megapixels do I need for print?
For a sharp 6×4 inch photo at 300 DPI you need about 1800×1200 px (2.2 MP). Posters need more; divide your target inches by 300 to get the pixels required per side.
