Add your images
Choose JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF or HEIC images to split into HSL panels.
View the HSL strip
Each photo becomes one wide PNG with hue, saturation and lightness grayscale panels joined together.
Download the strips
Save each strip PNG on its own or download all strips together as a ZIP.
What the H, S and L panels show
The left panel shows hue angle around the colour wheel, where red is near zero, green near a third and blue near two thirds. The middle panel shows saturation from grey to vivid, and the right shows lightness from black to white.
A bright red apple is mid-grey in hue, bright in saturation and mid-grey in lightness, while a pale sky is bright in lightness and dark in saturation. Reading the three together explains why colours look dull or vivid.
How to read the strip
Add one or more images and the tool builds a wide PNG joining the hue, saturation and lightness panels side by side. The result keeps full resolution, so gradients and edges stay easy to compare across panels.
Everything runs inside your own browser, so files never travel across the internet. Close the tab and the temporary pixels are gone from memory.
When an HSL view helps
Use HSL to understand colour edits: hue shifts the colour family, saturation controls vividness and lightness controls brightness. Photos that look washed out usually show dark saturation panels.
For brightness-only edits compare with Show LAB channels, which separates perceptual lightness differently. Download the HSL strip PNG on its own, or convert a batch and collect everything in one ZIP.
Questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. Your images are opened and split inside your browser. They never leave your device.
What do hue, saturation and lightness mean?
Hue is the colour angle, saturation is vividness from grey to pure colour, and lightness is brightness from black to white.
Why does hue look grey and noisy?
Hue is meaningless for grey pixels, so near-grey areas show random mid-grey values. Check saturation first: dark saturation means the hue panel can be ignored.
Is it free?
Yes. Free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limits.
