How it works
Type or paste words
Write names, vocabulary or any sentence in the box, or open a text file. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Pick simple or kids style
Simple gives a compact lowercase respelling, while Kids gives big clear syllables that young readers can chant.
Copy or download
Copy the respelling for worksheets and cards, or download it as a TXT file.
A readable respelling, not code words
This tool sounds words out instead of naming code words: “phone” becomes “fuh-oh-nnn-eh”, with every letter pronounced in order. Common letter groups are treated as one sound, so ph reads as f, th, sh and ch stay together, ck reads as k, tion reads as shun, and qu reads as kw, which keeps the respelling close to how the word really sounds.
Unlike the NATO alphabet, which swaps letters for words like Alfa and Bravo to spell over the radio, this respelling shows pronunciation itself. Use it for classroom vocabulary, speech practice, brand names and fantasy words where the reader simply needs to say the word out loud.
Simple and Kids styles
Simple style writes small hyphenated syllables, such as “fuh-oh-nnn-eh”, that slip neatly under the original word on a worksheet or flashcard. Words stay separated by single spaces and punctuation keeps its place, so whole sentences can be respelled without losing their shape.
Kids style writes the same syllables in capitals with slashes between words, such as “FUH-OH-NNN-EH”, which young readers find easier to track and chant one chunk at a time. It is the same pronunciation in a bolder outfit, made for whiteboards, posters and reading corners.
Private by design
Pronunciation tools often handle children's names, student work and speech notes, which deserve to stay personal. This generator respells every word inside your own browser with its built-in sound table, so names and sentences are never uploaded, logged or stored on a server.
There is no account, no queue and no expiry: open the Phonetic spelling generator when a word needs sounding out, respell it, copy or download the TXT file and close the tab. Your browser cache only keeps the app itself for offline use, never your words.
Questions
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Respelling happens inside your browser. Your words never leave your device.
Is this the same as the NATO alphabet?
No. NATO swaps letters for code words like Alfa. This tool respells pronunciation, like fuh-oh-nnn for phone.
Why are silent letters included?
Every letter is sounded in order so the respelling always matches the spelling, which helps early readers map letters to sounds.
Is it free?
Yes. Respell as many words as you like, free, with no sign-up and no daily limits.
