Add your images
Choose JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF or HEIC images to split into LCH panels.
View the LCH strip
Each photo becomes one wide PNG with lightness, chroma and hue grayscale panels joined in order.
Download the strips
Save each strip PNG on its own or download all strips together as a ZIP.
What the L, C and H panels show
The left panel shows L perceptual lightness from black to white, the middle shows C chroma colourfulness from grey to vivid, and the right shows H hue angle around the wheel. It is the same polar LAB as HCL in L-C-H order.
Portraits often show smooth lightness, mid chroma on skin and varied hue in backgrounds, while product shots show flat lightness with spikes of high chroma on logos.
How to read the strip
Add one or more images and the tool builds a wide PNG joining the luminance, chroma and hue panels side by side. The result keeps full resolution, so lightness steps and vivid accents remain easy to judge.
The conversion uses only your hardware, keeping originals off remote disks. No upload queue or waiting room stands between you and the result.
When an LCH view helps
Use LCH when you design palettes with even steps, because lightness and chroma match what eyes notice. It helps pick accessible text colours that stay readable on coloured grounds.
For hue-first teaching try Show HCL channels, which lists the same three panels starting with hue. Download the LCH strip PNG on its own, or convert a batch and collect everything in one ZIP.
Questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. Your images are opened and split inside your browser. They never leave your device.
What is the difference between HCL and LCH?
They hold the same three values in a different order: HCL lists hue first, LCH lists lightness first. Panels contain the same pixels.
Why do grey areas have strange hue?
Grey has no hue, so near-grey pixels show noisy mid-grey hue values. Check chroma first: dark chroma means hue can be ignored.
Is it free?
Yes. Free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limits.
