    How it works

    1. Add photos to tile

Drop in images to mosaic for privacy or playful block style.

    2. Set block size

Small tiles keep the scene readable; large tiles fully anonymise.

    3. Download tiled PNGs

Preview the grid, then save chunky mosaics for sharing.

Chunky tiles for privacy and play

Averaging each square block into its mean colour turns detailed photographs into honest grids where content stays hinted but identities dissolve. Journalists shielding plates and faces, parents sharing playground snaps and sellers hiding addresses all rely on block sizes large enough that reversal is mathematically hopeless, unlike soft blurs that sharpening can partially undo. The same effect doubles as pop-art styling, because mid-size tiles preserve composition rhythm while flattening noise into clean, poster-like cells.

Block size is the privacy dial: two-pixel tiles merely texture the image, sixteen-pixel tiles anonymise faces at social sizes while keeping scenes recognisable, and sixty-four-pixel tiles reduce even streets to abstract quilts. Because each tile uses the true local average rather than a sampled centre pixel, colours stay faithful and gradients step smoothly instead of posterising harshly, which keeps mosaics attractive rather than merely redacted when used as design elements.

Hide what matters, keep the story

Whole-image mosaics suit quick shares, but consider whether only a region needs hiding — though this tool tiles everything evenly for speed and simplicity. Pair large blocks with tight crops that exclude context clues like uniforms, house numbers and distinctive tattoos, because determined viewers combine mosaic hints with captions and backgrounds to re-identify subjects. For legal safety, prefer over-masking to under-masking, and never promise anonymity from mosaics alone when audio, metadata or surrounding frames leak the same facts.

PNG exports keep tile edges razor sharp, while JPG would fringe them with ringing that invites attempted reversal. Archive originals privately, share only tiled copies, and test recognisability by showing the mosaic to an uninvolved friend before posting. When the goal is style rather than safety, small blocks over vivid street photography yield knitted, quilt-like prints that enlarge beautifully to posters and textile patterns.

    Anonymising without an audience

Faces needing concealment should not be bounced through moderation queues merely to be hidden, so tiling executes locked inside your browser. Remote pixelators often store originals alongside redacted versions for abuse review, creating exactly the pairing privacy seeks to avoid, whereas here block averaging and PNG writing happen in transient page memory with no outbound traffic, leaving vulnerable subjects, sources and minors visible only to you.

There is no account, no review and no watermark: open Color mosaic image when a share needs shielding, tile up to ten photos, download the blocked PNGs and close the tab. Only the app code remains for offline use, never your frames. Re-tile from sheltered originals whenever policies change, because sources never leave your disk and each mosaic is an independent, disposable publication copy.

    Questions

    Are mosaicked photos uploaded?

No. Tiling runs locally in your browser. Files are never sent to a server.

    Is it free?

Yes. Free to use with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limits.

    What block size hides faces?

At typical social sizes, 16–32 px blocks make faces unrecognisable. Use larger blocks for small images or stronger safety.

    Can mosaics be reversed?

Large-block averages cannot be reversed into detail. Light blurs sometimes can, which is why true mosaic blocks are safer.
