Keep PNG or WebP for transparency, or use JPG freely for opaque shots.
Transparency is easy to lose
A logo with a transparent background can silently gain a white box when it passes through a converter, a chat app or a wrong export preset. The damage is invisible in the file name and only shows up when the image lands on a coloured background.
This check counts every pixel by alpha value: fully transparent, semi-transparent like soft shadows and edges, and fully opaque. The verdict then tells you plainly whether converting to JPG or BMP is safe or would destroy see-through areas.
Private transparency checks
Pixel counting happens wholly inside your browser on your own device — each image is decoded locally and only the totals are displayed. Nothing is uploaded, so logos, product shots and unreleased artwork stay confidential throughout.
No account or queue stands in your way: check up to ten images, note which ones truly carry alpha, and close the tab. The browser retains only the app shell for offline use, never your pictures or results.
When to check and what to do next
Check before converting to JPG, before sending logos to print, and whenever a supposedly transparent PNG shows a white background. Semi-transparent counts also warn you about feathered edges that need a format with full alpha support.
Keep transparency by saving as PNG, WebP, TIFF or ICO; flatten onto white with our converter when you truly want JPG. For colour insight alongside alpha, run Top image colors next.
Questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. Transparency is counted inside your browser on your own device. Your images are never sent to us or to anyone else.
Is it free?
Yes. Free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limits.
Which formats keep transparency?
PNG, WebP, TIFF and ICO preserve transparency. JPG and BMP do not — converting to them fills transparent areas, usually with white or black.
What are semi-transparent pixels?
Pixels with partial opacity, such as soft shadows, motion blur and anti-aliased edges. They need a format with full alpha, like PNG or WebP, to survive.
