The result appears here as soon as you type or open a file.
Settings
No settings needed. Open an image; its data URL appears as you open it.
Your text never leaves this deviceHow it works
Open a picture
Open a JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF or HEIC file. Its data URL appears at once.
Copy the URL
Copy the data:image/…;base64,… text, or download it as a text file.
Paste it into code
Use it in an img tag or a CSS url(...) so the page needs no separate image file.
What data URLs do
A data URL packs a whole file into one line of text: data:image/png;base64,… followed by the Base64 of the picture. Web pages can use it anywhere a web address would go, so small icons and logos can live inside the HTML or CSS itself with no extra download.
That convenience has a price: Base64 runs about one third larger than the picture. Keep data URLs for small assets under a few dozen kilobytes; large photos belong in normal files.
Using the result well
For crisp icons prefer PNG, and for photos prefer JPG before converting, since the data URL inherits the format you open. The correct MIME type is detected from the file and placed after data: automatically.
Test the page after pasting: very long URLs are hard to read in an editor, so keep them on their own line or in a separate stylesheet. If the URL breaks across lines, rejoin it before saving.
Converted on your device
Your pictures are converted locally: the file is read and encoded by this page, and never travels to a server. Screenshots of unreleased work and personal photos stay yours alone.
There is no account, no queue and no expiry. Convert a picture, copy the URL, close the tab, and nothing of your file is left behind anywhere.
Questions
Are my pictures uploaded to a server?
No. The data URL is built inside your browser. Your pictures never leave your device.
Why is the data URL so long?
It holds the entire picture as Base64, which is about one third larger than the file. Small icons give short URLs; photos give very long ones.
Where can I paste a data URL?
Anywhere a web address works: an HTML img tag, a CSS url(...), or most fields that accept image URLs. Very old browsers may refuse huge ones.
Is it free?
Yes. Free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limits.
