    How it works

    1. Paste your list

Type, paste or open a text file with one item per line or a block of words.

    2. Choose lines or words

Sort by lines for lists, or by words for a block of text. Toggle case and duplicates.

    3. Copy or download

Copy the sorted result or download it as a TXT file.

Sort lines for lists and spreadsheets

Sort by Lines treats every line as one item and orders lines from A to Z using language-aware comparison, so accented characters sort sensibly and numbers sort before letters. It is ideal for name lists, book titles, inventory rows, to-do items and values copied from a spreadsheet column. Empty lines are ignored so stray blank rows do not clutter the result.

With Case sensitive off, Apple, apple and APPLE group together and keep a stable relative order. With it on, all capitals sort before lowercase by code point, which matches programmer-style sorting. Turn on Remove duplicates to keep only the first occurrence of each repeated line, which is useful for cleaning mailing lists and keyword sets.

Sort words inside a block of text

Sort by Words splits the text on any whitespace and orders every word from A to Z, one per line in the result, which makes it easy to scan vocabulary, tags or ingredients. Punctuation attached to a word stays with it during sorting, so review the output if your text has commas or full stops that should be stripped first. The summary reports how many words were sorted and how many duplicates were removed.

Deduplication in Words mode compares exact text when Case sensitive is on, and case-insensitively when it is off, so Apple and apple count as the same word. Sorting is stable and Unicode-safe, preserving emoji and non-Latin scripts throughout. For very long pastes, prefer Lines mode when your items already sit on separate lines.

Private by design: sort without uploading

This sort words alphabetically tool runs entirely in your browser. Your lists are read and ordered on your own device with a small local script. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is saved after you close the page, and it works offline after the first visit. Check the live preview before you copy or download the sorted file.

That matters for contact lists, customer names and private inventories you are tidying. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit, and you can process up to 10 files of 500 MB each in one go. Close the tab when you have finished with sensitive material.

    Questions

    Is my list uploaded anywhere?

No. Sorting happens inside your browser. Your words and lines never leave your device.

Should I sort by lines or words?

Lines keeps each row together and suits lists. Words splits everything on spaces and suits a block of keywords.

    How are duplicates removed?

With Remove duplicates on, only the first occurrence is kept. Matching ignores case unless Case sensitive is on.

    Is it free?

Yes. Free to use, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limits.
